A Hollywood Star Corey Haim Dies Of Overdose In Los Angeles:LOS ANGELES: Corey Haim, a Hollywood teen star of the 1980s who became as famous for his struggles with substance abuse as his acting, died in Los Angeles of an apparent prescription drug overdose. He was 38.
Canadian Born Haim, who rose to fame alongside fellow teen star Corey Feldman, was pronounced dead at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center early on Wednesday, police said.
“It was an apparent overdose,” said Sergeant Frank Albarren of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Station, adding the “type of medication” was unknown.
Ed Winter, assistant chief of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, told local television reporters Haim had been suffering flu-like symptoms and that his mother, who lived with the actor, found him distressed in the early morning hours and called paramedics who took him to the hospital.
He said coroners found some prescription medication in Haim’s apartment but “no illicit drugs.”
“There doesn’t appear to be foul play,” Winter said.
Haim first came to prominence in the 1986 movie “Lucas” alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. Then came his biggest hit, “The Lost Boys” with Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric and Feldman, as well as “License to Drive,” also with Feldman.
Haim became known for his on-screen partnership and off-screen friendship with Feldman, who also struggled with drug abuse.
They often were called “The Two Coreys” and the pair even starred in a reality TV series of the same name on U.S. cable television in 2006 but it was canceled before finishing the second season.
After battling a drug habit for years, Haim openly talked about overcoming his addictions around the time he was promoting his reality TV series and said that he had become clean and sober

March 10, 2010

The 42-year-old actress recorded her debut, “I Wanna Be Loved by You”, when Molly Ringwald was just six and she completed work on her follow-up on Saturday night, March 6 – hours before she took the stage at the Oscars for a touching tribute to moviemaker John Hughes.

I haven’t come up with a name yet but it’s with my quintet that I’ve been performing with a lot in the Los Angeles area.” The actress is also branching out as a writer – she’ll be releasing a new book, “Getting the Pretty Back”, about motherhood, diet and turning 40, in May.

Oscar Fashion Best And Worst
March 9, 2010
Oscar Fashion Best And Worst:Verdi said few people had a fashion miss this year. But among those that did was Zoë Saldaña.
Verdi said, “Zoe’s dress was fabulous, but a little over-the-top. It looked like my Aunt Connie made that.”
“Early Show” co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez agreed, saying, “The top was nice, but as you go down, you see all those ruffles.”
“It’s very advanced fashion,” Verdi said. “I think it’s hard to make that dress come across as something that women want to wear.”
Rodriguez said, “She she looked like belonged in one of those shows – like a can-can.”
But Schwartz disagreed.
She said, “It’s all about moving toward fashion. I thought she sparkled, I thought she looked different. You might not understand it right now, but this is something that you’ll be seeing all over the country.”
Schwartz said, for her, Kate Winslet’s gray gown was a miss this year.
“I thought she looked stunning and beautiful, but when you can borrow any dress on the planet, this one is very simple. I kind of looked to her to see more glamorous,” she said.
Verdi, who liked Winslet’s look, said the dress seemed to have a 1940s feel, a great fashion Nod Joan Crawford.
Schwartz countered, “Her hair and makeup was stunning and the dress is beautiful, but I would like to see it at a wedding, not on the red carpet.”
As for favorites, Rodriguez said she thought Vera Farmiga’s red ruffled gown was “absolutely stunning.”
Verdi said he loved Jennifer Lopez’s dress “even though it looked like it was made of bubble wrap.”
He said, “I love that it had this new feeling. I love that it felt very modern and it was Sculptural, and it was not just about the drape, which is where a lot of fashion lives.”
Looking at a photo of Lopez’s gown from the back, Verdi added, “I think they pay her separately butt when she signs a deal for a movie.”
Among the men, Verdi said Tom Ford was a standout.
Rodriguez said, “And every guy was wearing Tom Ford.”
Schwartz added, “And if they weren’t, they should have been.”
“He’s like the Oprah of the red carpet in men’s wear,” Verdi said. “Everybody wants a piece of Tom Ford.”
Ford wore a black tux with a white flower in the Lapel.
Verdi said, “He’s super cool, and of course, he’ll get this right.”
Robert Downey Jr.. was also a favorite for Schwartz. His midnight blue tux, paired with sneakers was “something different,” she said.
Downey’s wife, Rodriguez pointed out, had gold accents in her dress, following the evening’s prominent trend of metallic flourishes.
Music By PrudenceDocumentary, Elinor Burkett
March 8, 2010
Music By PrudenceDocumentary, Elinor Burkett:“Music by Prudence,” made partly with the financial and creative support of the Maryland Institute College of Art, overcame several other strong candidates, including the American labor tragedy “The Last Truck,” to win best short documentary at the 2010 Academy Awards on Sunday night.
Few Oscar films have packed in more profundity per minute than this tale of Prudence Mabhena, 21, and seven other disabled young musicians in Zimbabwe transcending bigotry and isolation through art and fellowship.
Many Zimbabweans regard handicaps as signs of sorcery. So singer-songwriter Mabhena and her bandmates in the Afro-fusion marimba group Liyana were stigmatized at birth. Not every band member has an affliction as visible and extreme as Mabhena’s: She suffers from arthrogryposis, a condition that deforms joints and cost her both her legs.
But all the band members survived brutal or apathetic treatment at the hands of parents and/or siblings who regarded them as stains on the family’s reputation or drags on the family’s fortune. They found their individual and group voices only when they landed at the King George VI School & Centre for Children with Physical Disabilities in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. It’s not just an academy but an institution devoted to their physical and psychological care.
In the King George VI School environment, Mabhena was able to dream of reaching an international audience with her singing.
On Oscar night, that audience got a glimpse of her gliding across the red carpet in a green dress, with the film’s producer-director.
Another school, MICA, was instrumental in bringing her story to the Academy’s (and now the world’s) attention. Last week, Williams said, “MICA was amazing. I couldn’t have done the film without them.”
Early on, the film’s producer, Elinor Burkett, who first thought Liyana should be captured in a movie, put Williams in touch with Patrick Wright, the chair of MICA’s video and film arts department. Wright lent his own equipment, and some of MICA’s, to Williams for a critical period of early shooting. Wright found seed money for the project, cut trailers to win long-term backing, enlisted students as interns and recommended, as a cinematographer, Errol Webber Jr., who graduated from MICA in 2008 and immediately went to work on the movie.
Recent MICA graduate Matt Davies, who received a credit as production assistant, said that after spending countless hours logging footage, he thought every minute of footage was essential. But when he saw the completed film, he thought it was “marvelous that they packed so much into a short-film format. You get a really good sense of what life is like there, the hardship and what you have to deal with. You could do a half-hour on each member of Liyana, but Prudence’s character, who she is, what she has to deal with, her striving to be positive about her future despite her past, is overwhelming.”
“We all did this because we love Prudence and Liyana,” Wright said at the time of his nomination. “Here were all these young kids, physically disabled, making music in a country falling apart around them. And, here, in the middle, is this beautiful woman who sings like Aretha Franklin.“
Lloyd Bridges Winner Acctor 2010
March 8, 2010
Lloyd Bridges Winner Acctor 2010:Jeff Bridges was one of the most popular and predictable winners of the night as he picked up the Oscar for Best Actor.
Bridges dedicated the award to his parents and recalled how his father, the actor Lloyd Bridges, had taught him the basics of acting as a child.
Raising his statuette to the heavens he said: “I want to thank my mum and dad for turning me on to such a groovy profession. My mum and dad loved showbiz so much. This is honouring them as much as it is me.”
Bridges is known for his naturalistic style and for often playing rambling and unpredictable characters, and he has long been considered an under-appreciated actor.
In “Crazy Heart,” Bridges played country singer Bad Blake, who is a heavy drinker and has been relegated to playing in small bars and even a bowling alley.
He wrestles to gain control of his life after falling for a journalist and single mother, played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal was nominated for best supporting actress for the role, but lost to Mo’Nique.
Bridges, 60, did his own singing in Crazy Heart, putting his lesser known musical abilities front and centre to give voice to the fictional, down-on-his-luck country star.
Fisher Stevens Imdb

Fisher Stevens Imdb:In her acceptance speech, Monique said that she was glad they paid attention to the acting and not to the politics.
After all, what they are supposed to vote on.
Congratulations for winning the award for Best Supporting Actress, Monique!
Where are all the big stars, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman?
So thrilled that Jeff Bridges won for Best Actor! It’s made this long, boring show worth it. Now if only Sandra Bullock takes the Best Actress, that would be special!
So glad that The Cove took the Award for Documentary, instead of the commie rag about the ’secrets of the Vietnam War’.
The Vove Movie
March 8, 2010
The Vove Movie:The Cove acceptance speech was one of the more memorable moment of the Academy Award broadcast was when Ric O’Barry, the subject of the documentary, held up a sign, but many viewers missed it because cameras quickly cut away.
What did Cove Sign Say?
Richard O’Barry’s sign read, “Text Dolphin to 44144.” Presumably, the “Text Dolphin to 44144″ is a way to help stop the dolphin hunt in Taiji, Japan.
So what happens when you text 44144? Texting 44144 will sign you up to receive information about the fight to end the slaughter in Taiji.
The Cove depicted O’Barry’s quest to end the killing of dolphins in Taiji. Both O’Barry and producers faced tremendous risks while filming the Cove. O’Barry captured and trained the first five dolphins who played Flipper in the popular 1960s TV series of the same name. O’Barry later regretted his work on the TV show and has dedicated his life to protecting dolphins.

Zach Galifianakis
March 7, 2010
Zach Galifianakis:In a little warm-up for his SNL appearance on Saturday, Zach Galifianakis appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to test out his material on a laugh-happy helplessly Fallon. Except Fallon’s usual fake laughs actually seemed real!
After Zach made a brief appearance on the “Let us play with your look” segment in a fake wig and creepy smile (pictured above), he sat down for an actual interview.
It looked like he was not really even trying to be funny that throughout the interview, yet he had Jimmy Fallon and the audience laughing the whole time. Although the interview was quite informative. Fame and fortune has treated Galifianakis well, as he now has the money to finally invest in a beardist.more details
