Nj Governor Election:The latest polls on the New Jersey governor race show a neck-and-neck battle between the incumbent and his Republican challenger. But the GOP candidate thinks the vote on Tuesday will go his way in the end.
KYW’s Ian Bush reports that the RealClearPolitics.com average of seven recent surveys finds the GOP’s Chris Christie with a 1.2 percent lead over Jon Corzine. That’s not far from the latest Quinnipiac poll, which has the Democrat trailing by a similiar margin, according to poll director Maurice Carroll:
“Christie 42, Corzine 40, Daggett 12. Daggett is the key to this incredibly close New Jersey election.”
Carroll says the majority of Garden State voters telephoned by pollsters don’t think Chris Daggett can win, so it’s a matter of whether those favoring Daggett will fire off a protest vote for the Independent or switch at the last minute for a major party candidate.
If they have a charge of heart, the survey suggests, more of them would select Corzine over Christie.
Meanwhile, KYW’s John Ostapkovich reports from Mount Holly, NJ that Christie says things appear to be trending his way.
Christie and his wife were the stars of the show at Burlington County Republican headquarters, thanking the couple of dozen people making get-out-the-vote phone calls, and even making a few of them.more info
