“Janet Jackson Interview With Robin Roberts”: sat down with ABC’s Robin Roberts in a recorded interview Wednesday evening. In her interview, Ms. Jackson spoke about her brother, Michael Jackson, and how she and her family are coping with his recent death. The 43-year-old recounted their growing up together, her own career path, and where she sees herself heading career-wise and personally from here. There is a not a day that goes by that she does not think of her brother. However, when Ms. Roberts asked her generally how she is doing, she replied, “I’m well.”
Ms. Roberts asked Janet Jackson many questions about her own life and career, but Janet did not shy away from questions about her brother and what the family knew about the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
When asked whether the family knew about the Propofol Mr. Jackson allegedly was taking to sleep at night, Ms. Jackson responded: “That was a shocker to me. None of us knew to that extent. That’s serious; that’s heavy.”
Asked whether she thought the doctor on hand at the time of Michael’s death was responsible for it, Ms. Jackson answered: “He was the one administering. I think he was responsible.”
Will Janet Jackson watch This Is It, her brother’s recorded rehearsals for what was to be his new tour? The singer’s younger sister replied that she has not seen it yet, and may never see it. Right now, anyway, she said it is “too soon; too hard.”
Robin Roberts asked Janet Jackson how she was managing to cope with the pain of her brother’s loss. She said, “I needed to get back to work. It helped me to get through it. I was able to put a lot of my focus someplace else.”
Ms. Jackson’s new CD, Number Ones, is available now; and she will open the American Music Awards November 22. She is also working on a book called True You.
When asked what career advice Michael Jackson gave her as his sister, 8 years younger than he, Ms. Jackson replied: “He’d say stop and enjoy what we’ve just done, what we’ve just accomplished, and to be proud of that.
