Toyota Recall September 2009
September 30, 2009
Latest news updates about Toyota Recall September 2009, Toyota recall in history with over 3.8 million cars having problems because of the floor mats. On August 28, four people in a Lexus crashed at over 120mph because of jammed accelerators caused by faulty floor mats.
According to the Toyota press release on the floor mat recall, “Recent events have prompted Toyota to take a closer look at the potential for an accelerator pedal to get stuck in the full open position due to an unsecured or incompatible driver’s floor mat.”
This is not the first time it happens as the first problem was reported in 2004 with the Prius. Then in September 2007 Toyota recalled thousands of Toyota Camrys and Lexus ES 250s due to the all-weather mats. So far there were 102 reports and 13 crashes with 5 deaths and 17 injuries caused by Toyota and Lexus floor mats which ham the accelerator pedals.
As a desperate measure Toyota is urging all Toyota and Lexus drivers to remove the driver’s side floor mats and do not replace it with anything else and the car maker can come up with a solution to the floor mats.
Last month we’ve seen millions of Toyota cars recalled all over the world because of various faulty parts. Toyota recall September 2009? 3.8 million units because of faulty floor mats.

Toyota Recall September 2009
September 30, 2009
Toyota Recall September 2009, WASHINGTON — Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it will recall 3.8 million vehicles in the United States, the company’s largest-ever U.S. recall, to address problems with a removable floor mat that could cause accelerators to get stuck and lead to a crash. The recall will involve popular models such as the Toyota Camry, the top-selling passenger car in America, and the Toyota Prius, the best-selling gas-electric hybrid.
Toyota said it was still working with officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to find a remedy to fix the problem and said owners could be notified about the recall as early as next week. Toyota spokesman Irv Miller said until the company finds a fix, owners should take out the removable floor mat on the driver’s side and not replace it.
“A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop a vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death,” Miller said.
NHTSA said it had received reports of 102 incidents in which the accelerator may have become stuck on the Toyota vehicles involved. It was unclear how many led to crashes but the inquiry was prompted by a highspeed crash in August in California of a Lexus barreling out of control. As the vehicle hit speeds exceeding 120 mph, family members made a frantic 911 call and said the accelerator was stuck and they couldn’t stop the vehicle.
“This is an urgent matter,” Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement. “For everyone’s sake, we strongly urge owners of these vehicles to remove mats or other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration.”
The recall will affect 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350.
Toyota’s previously largest U.S. recall was about 900,000 vehicles in 2005 to fix a steering issue. The company declined to say how many complaints it had received about the accelerator issue.
The Japanese automaker warned owners that if they think their vehicle is accelerating out of control, they should check to see whether their floor mat is under the pedal. If a driver can’t remove the floor mat, Toyota advises drivers to step on the brake pedal with both feet until the vehicle slows and then try to put it into neutral and switch the ignition to accessory power.

Pink Toed Tarantula
September 30, 2009
Pink Toed Tarantula, There’s a lot of searching going on for information about the pink toed tarantula.
Simply put it’s a species of tarantula which, when adult, has pink feet: there, bet you couldn’t guess that from the name!
Actually, if looks very cute (if you’re into spiders that is) and the babies are even more so: the colouration reverses as they mature. So the baby ones are pink all over but with dark little toes.
The reason they’re so popular as pets is that they’re very calm and rarely attack. They cannot, unlike many other species of tarantula, shoot their hairs into things, although the hairs on their abdomen can cause irritation and an allergic reaction if you happen to be allergic to them.
Much of the searching going on is for “pink toed tarantula bite” and one would assume that someone’s woried about having been bitten. In humans this isn’t a problem: about equivalent to a wasp sting.
Although do note, there are humans who are sufficiently allergic to wasp stings (so called anaphylactic shock) that one can kill them. So while the pink toed tarantula is not dangerous, just irritating, to most of us, this isn’t true for everyone.
If you’d like to see why people keep pink toed tarantulas as pets, watch this video of one dining.

After Australian captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and put Pakistan into bat on a wicket with moisture on it due to rain over the past two days and his decision proved right as his seamers fully exploited the situation and did not let their opponents make a big total.
Pakistan’s main scorers were Mohammad Yousuf (45), Kamran Akmal (44) and Misbah-ul-Haq (41). Shoaib Malik also made a significant contribution of 27 runs.
For Australia, Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson claimed two wickets each while Brett Lee and James Hopes took one wicket each.

Earthquake News
September 30, 2009
Earthquake News, Federal officials issued a tsunami advisory for the California coast after a 7.9 temblor struck American Samoa earlier .
Officials said that they don’t believe coastal regions are likely to suffer much damage but that some beaches could see higher-than-usual tides about 9 p.m. Pacific time. Curt Kaplan of the National Weather Service in Oxnard said the seismic activity could bring waves a foot higher than normal.
“This is an advisory, not a warning,” he said. “But if I were on the [immediate] coast, I would move inland.”
He said “light fluctuation in tides and currents” are expected and could last for several hours.
The weather service issued a statement that said in part: “A Tsunami Advisory means that a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to persons in or very near the water is imminent or expected.
Significant, widespread inundation is not expected for areas under an advisory. Currents may be hazardous to swimmers, boats, and coastal structures and may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrival.”
The quake struck about 10:45 a.m. about 4,000 miles from Los Angeles, and officials in American Samoa have reported some fatalities.

Carly Patterson
September 30, 2009
Carly Rae Patterson (born February 4, 1988 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is a singer and former gymnast. She is the 2004 Olympic All-Around Champion and a member of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame. She currently lives in Allen, Texas.
Four underclassmen came through on Senior Night in Valparaiso’s 2-1 girls soccer victory over Portage.
Coach Rob Cespesdes started all five healthy seniors Tuesday (keeper Sarah Fisher is out with a bad back).
But two freshmen combined on the game-winner in the 66th minute. Kaylee Pullins, open on the left, booted in a nice cross from Andrea Violanti.
“It was a real good cross, a beautiful pass,” Pullins said. “I just needed to get it in for my team.”
Her sixth goal this season won the Duneland Conference thriller. It beat diving keeper Tori Bliss to her left.
Valparaiso (8-6-1, 4-2 DAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead with 14:05 left in the first half. Sophomore Kate Johnson’s blast hit the left post and ricochetted across the mouth to the right side. Sophomore Zoe Patterson, in the right place at the right time, got her first goal.
Seven minutes later, Portage junior Kristen Ashby tied it with her ninth goal, a nifty back tap. Valparaiso University recruit Tara Ellis’ hard shot went off keeper Emma Kurt’s hand to the right corner and Ashby slipped it by a defender.
Two minutes later, senior Ellis’ blast zipped just over the crossbar.
Valparaiso controlled play much of the match.
“Our kids were excited for Senior Night,” Cespesdes said. “We’re lucky to have good freshmen and sophomores, a great addition to our upperclassmen.
“Our girls kept the pressure on Portage with nice touches, nice passes. Our scoring comes from all over, we’re balanced.”
He warned his team that “Portage has some strong offensive players. It’s always a tight game with them. We talked about fighting for each possession, challenging Portage forwards and making passes.”
The Indians (4-6-2, 3-3), outshot 4-2 in the second half and 10-7 overall, turned up the intensity late.
With 57 seconds left, Ellis took her third straight corner kick, seeking a tie. Off a scrum the ball ended up at the left corner, 3 to 4 feet from the net. But a Portage player whiffed and Valparaiso cleared it.
“We came out stronger the second half, especially the last 20 minutes,” Portage assistant coach Mike Sopko said. “We’re working on strong sets, playing (the ball) to our feet and building from the back.
“The Duneland has so many tough teams, we need to win the close ones.”
Thats been a problem this season.
Sopko was speaking for coach Amanda Isakson, who was helping Carly Bermes. The junior captain, one of Portage’s top scorers, “tweaked” her left knee in the final minute.more info
