Vince Papale/Vince Papale Stats

Vince Papale/Vince Papale Stats:The movie Invincible was a pretty good movie, with a great underlying theme and message. Its something that I can understand as a college student looking for purpose in life, especially with so little to do during a slow summer.

What is really great about the movie though is that it is based upon the true story of Vince Papale. Except that it seems in reality, his life was not taking a serious depressing turn that lead to him trying out for the Philadelphia Eagles. He just decided to do so.

But with the amazing stats he had in high school and college for track and field, its not a huge surprise he became the superstar he was when he joined the NFL. It is true he was accepted at the age of 30, and was the oldest rookie in the NFL to play without previous college experience.

It was an interesting story of a bartender/substitute teacher turned older NFL superstar.

During his time with the Eagles, he was voted “Man of the Year” in 1978 for his many charitable activities. But unfortunately later, a shoulder injury ended his career in 1979.

Vince PapaleIn 2001, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, but since then, he has recovered from the disease, to become a spokesman encouraging people to get regular check-ups. He has appeared in commercials for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital encouraging others to be tested.

Now he has continued his career with a full family and remaining a diehard Philadelphia Eagles football fan. He is also currently listed as the secretary/Treasurer of the Philadelphia Chapter of the NFL Alumni Association. His story is a good one, led by a late-discovered grand accomplishment. But a later revealed purpose in life is better than a never revealed one at all.
