Influential people involved in sugar crisis: LHC LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice is determined to hold on to the issue of sugar crisis until it is resolved and sugar crisis is reached to its logical end, Geo News reported Wednesday.

LHC’s Chief Justice Khawja Muhammed Sharif said the sugar crisis surfaced owing to the hoarding of sugar with influential people involved in it.

The CJ said it is part of his belief that there is no scarcity of sugar in the country, only the influential people have accumulated it to stockpile fortune for them, urging the government to take these people to task.

Chairman Trading Corporation of Pakistan Saeed Ahmed Khan, in his statement in the court, said there was less sugar produced this year across the globe; while, India gave a large order for sugar in the international market causing the sugar prices to soar up and subsequently the sugar mills stashed the sugar up.

The court issued a notices to the federal and Punjab governments for the establishment of higher judicial commission aimed at pinpointing and punishing the people responsible for the sugar crisis.

The court adjourned the hearing till September 3.

Talking to media after the hearing, TCP Chairman Saeed Ahmed Khan said sugar mills in Pakistan have sugar stock enough to last till December.
