Yesterday, tPC broke you the news that former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair had been shot dead. Initial reports called it a double homicide, then subsequent reports suggesting a homicide-suicide.
Mechelle McNair, misidentified in the beginning as the woman victim, has yet to make a statement.
The bodies of former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi, a woman he had been dating were found Saturday in a Nashville condominium, police said.
Investigators appear to now be treating the deaths as a murder-suicide, The Tennessean reported. McNair’s body was on the couch with Sahel Kazemi, 20, next to him. McNair, 36, had been shot several times, police said, while Kazemi was shot only once in the head and a gun lay close to her body.
Investigators said the bodies were discovered by Wayne Neely, a McNair friend, in a condominium McNair rented.
McNair, 36, retired in April 2008 after 13 seasons in the league.
He played for the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens, and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times. He was the co-NFL MVP in 2003 with the Indianapolis Colts’ Peyton Manning.
McNair led the Titans to the Super Bowl after the 1999 season, where the team lost to the St. Louis Rams 23-16. Receiver Kevin Dyson caught McNair’s final pass with no time remaining and was tackled with the ball inside the 1-yard line.
